Types of Polls
StrawPoll offers a large and constantly growing number of settings for its polls. So that you don't lose track of them, we decided to group typical application purposes and set predefined settings for them. Of course, the poll can still be customized to your needs down to the last detail.
Anonymous Polls
Use case
An anonymous poll is perfect for finding out the majority opinion of a large group. This is the most common type of poll on StrawPoll. It should be used when you post a poll on social media, message boards, or other websites.
Default settings
- Strict check for double voting (via IP-Adress & additional secret measures)
- Participants' names are not requested
- VPN users are not allowed to vote
- Nobody is allowed to edit their vote

Group Polls
Use case
A group poll is the right choice when an individual's opinion and name is important. Participants must enter their name when voting. Group polls are best when you want to make a decision about something in a small group of friends, at school, or at the office.
Default settings
- Low check for double voting (via browser session)
- Participants' names are required
- VPN users are allowed to vote
- While poll admins can change all votes, each voter can edit their own vote.
- Multiple choices are allowed

Meeting Polls
Use case
A meeting poll is similar to a group poll, except that the options consist of date & time. Meeting polls are very versatile and should be used whenever you want your participants to vote on availabilities. From group events to joint scheduling with friends, colleagues or business partners, meeting polls can be useful everywhere.
Default settings
- No check for double voting
- Participants' names are required
- VPN users are allowed to vote
- While poll admins can change all votes, each voter can edit their own vote.
- Multiple choices are allowed
- Poll options are dates & times
